An update with some great news about one of the young musicians supported by the Henley Festival Trust.

January 2010

Huw Wiggin was chosen to be part of the Park Lane Group Young Artists New Year Series, one of only 30 young musicians chosen throughout the entire UK. As part of the series, Huw recently had a saxophone recital at the Purcell Room in London.

Born on 17 October 1986, Huw Wiggin grew up in Henley on Thames and began learning the saxophone aged 11. At 16 he went to Chethams School of Music in Manchester and in 2004 began to study under Rob Buckland at the Royal Northern College of Music where he formed his duo with pianist Timothy Abel and in 2008 gained BMus degree with 1st class honours. He then went on to study in Germany for a Graduate Certificate at the Hochschule für Musik, Köln with Daniel Gauthier with support from the Deutscher Akademischer Ausausch Dienst.

While at the RNCM Huw was twice a finalist in the Gold Medal Weekend in 2007 and 2008. In May 2008, he received a Star Award from the Countess of Munster Trust and Musicians Benevolent Fund Music Education Award. He has performed solo recitals and played with orchestras in Manchester, Leeds, Utrecht and at The Henley Festival. Whilst studying in Germany he formed the Carambolage Saxophone Quartet, which performed in Düsseldorf, Aachen and other places throughout Germany.

He now lives and works in London, combining teaching with solo and group recitals and still continues his studies with Daniel Gauthier. Huw Wiggin is very grateful for the support from The Henley Festival Trust.
